In the latest edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention the Witch Trials’ new single ‘Virginia’.
With ‘Virginia’ the Witch Trials take on a much more patient sound in comparison to the large-scale bombast of their previous single ‘Wonderland’.
Performed with shuddering rhythms and slithering melodies of rasping brass and jangling guitar, the Witch Trials latest offering highlights the group’s ability to reshape and reform their psych-rock influenced sound.
The entire song still rattles and fizzes with the Dublin band’s distinctive cacophony of noise, but this time the added mood and sneering lo-fi vocal give an extra edge to the music.
The most promising aspect of ‘Virginia’ is that the Witch Trials are a young band only testing the boundaries of their sound, and even during this process they seem in complete control. In this context the Witch Trials have moved themselves into a position wherein they could deliver something very special indeed.
