In this edition of our song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape the spotlight turns to Princess’ new single ‘Neverlook’.
From the weaving opening melodies to the turbulent twist of percussion that underlines it ‘Neverlook’ pulls Princess’ varied stylistic leanings into focus, highlighting a palpable evolution in sound from the band.
Infusing all the tense tonal ambience of their music the song ebbs and flows with great dynamic lifts of noise to sudden drops of echoing harmonic beauty that build once again to captivating crescendos of feedback, rhythm and distorted melody.
Taking all the unbridled raw energy of their previous release Black Cat, Princess have sculpted the sheer affective noise of their sound into a more dynamically charged experience that showcases the group’s continuing growth and maturity as they begin to define their music more clearly.
Indeed those who attended the September Girls album launch in the Bello Bar earlier this year will have seen this first hand during Princess’ brilliant supporting set. With ‘Neverlook’ the band have delivered a record that is every bit as melodically engrossing and bone-shakingly visceral about their music.
It is for these reasons that ‘Neverlook’ by Princess is this week’s addition to The Mixed-Tape. The single itself is out now. To read the previous additions to the feature click here.
