In this edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention to O Emperor and their single ‘Switchblade’.
O Emperor return with a pounding, brash and characteristically musically structured new single ‘Switchblade’. Sounding like the natural progression from the vivid, fuzz driven alternative-rock of the band’s previous album Vitreous and the stark originality of their debut Hither Thither, ‘Switchblade’ is a simply infectious example of the five-piece at their best.
Bursting out the speakers with a myriad of melodies, textures and rhythms pulsing behind Paul Savage’s pointed vocal delivery, ‘Switchblade’ grabs the attention from the outset and takes you with it right until the very end.
Melding hard-edge indie, intricate guitar work, screeching textures and glistening synths O Emperor once again establish themselves as something different, changeable and ever-evolving on the Irish music scene. Resulting in an exciting glimpse into the group’s sound in the build-up to their much-anticipated new E.P Lizard.
