Sad news today as indie-pop act Groom have announced they are to break-up and will play their final show at the Pop Inn on March 7th.
Taking to Facebook today the four-piece confirmed they will break-up after ten years as a band. Mike Stevens stated:
Hi there. Mike here. I’m sorry to announce that Groom are to break up! We’re going to play a penultimate gig at the kid-friendly Popical Island 5th Birthday all-dayer (see below) so, for folks with kids, if you plan to go to that we’re on early-ish. And then we’ll do a farewell gig on March 7th in the Pop Inn on Little Britain Street. It’d be great if folk could make it to one of these and give us a proper old send-off to celebrate what has been a very enjoyable 10 years.
Groom will play two final shows this year. One at Popical Island’s 5th Birthday Bash in Whelan’s this Saturday (January 31st) and a special farewell gig at the Pop Inn on Saturday, March 7th.
A band whose recent album, Bread and Jam, featured in both TLMT’s Top 20 Albums and our Readers Top 20 Albums of 2014 list, Groom have provided several undeniable indie gems over the years including the brilliant ‘Colours’, which was a stand-out track from what is to be their last album.
Grooms final show this March will be a must for any fan of the Irish indie-pop scene, and a deserving send-off for a group05 whose music has featured prominently on TLMT over the last year.
