This week Steve delves into his favourite U2 song, ‘Stay, Faraway So Close!)’. Released in 1993 as part of the band’s often overlooked album Zooropa, and inspired by Wim Wenders classic German expressionsim film Der Himmel Über Berlin, and originally written with legendary crooner Frank Sinatra in mind, Steve asks if the song is greatest offering Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Muleen have ever put on record.
”If Pop was U2 at the nadir of the Achtung Baby sound, then ‘Stay (Faraway, So Close!) finds the band at their stylistic zenith” – Steve.
