Listen | Participant unveils the turbulent fragility of ‘Modern Retelling’

Participant has made his return today, unveiling a brand new E.P. entitled Modern Retelling.

Spanning four tracks, Modern Retelling is a fully realised sonic sea-change from Participant into more organic, melodically lush music that takes the experimental abstraction of his previous work an adds a melancholic dark-folk sound to proceedings resulting in his most striking work to date.

From previous singles ‘Coast’ and ‘Medicine’ to the stark repose of record opener ‘A Year Of Things I Didn’t Say’, Modern Retelling works as texturally deep offering from Participant that focuses on the rawness of his songwriting.

But it is with ‘Death Of Love One’ that Modern Retelling hits its high water mark in a song that has turbulent fragility to the musical ebb and flow as well as Participant’s heart-wrenching vocal.

Modern Retelling by Participant is out now.
