Hip-hop duo Tebi Rex have just released their brand new single ‘I Never Got Off The Bus’. The pair recently spoke to The Last Mixed Tape about the track, inspirations and future.
What’s the last record you bought?
I won’t lie, I haven’t bought a record in years. It’s all streaming baby. Shout out to our digital overloads Spotify
What’s the last song you played on Spotify?
It was K by Jaden Smith. Mans sampled a razor, flipped it and its haaard. Talking about fades while you can hear someone getting a fade? GOAT
What inspires your music?
A healthy mix of us wanting to be famous and genuinely being terrified of what kind of people fame would make us. Also kissing girls up against the walls at the Naas Gaa disco. The classics you know?
Your new single ‘I Never Got Off The Bus’ comes out this Friday. What is it you wanted to say with this record?
Breakups and Heartbreaks suck, and the past tends to leave a lasting impact regardless of how much you try to erase it. But it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. That’s just life. We just wanted to talk about our past in a way that says it’s okay. It’s not good. It’s not bad. It’s just okay and at most times that’s the best you can hope for.
What are your thoughts on the current output from the Irish music scene?
We’re great. We’re all so great and sexy and talented and cool and there’s bangers everywhere you look. Irish music has never been better, I want all the U2 smoke.
What are your plans for 2019?
Step 1- Drop an album. Step 2 -Sell out the Button Factory. Step 3- Be okay even if we fail at both step 1 and 2.
‘I Never Got Off The Bus’ by Tebi Rex is out now via Spotify.
