Other Voices 2018 will descend upon Dingle, County Kerry from November 30th to December 2nd. A Ritual Sea will be playing as part of this year’s Hennessy Other Voices Music Trail, and band member Donna McCabe took the time to speak to TLMT.
What’s the last song you listened to on Spotify?
Wild Nothing – Reichpop (it was raining yesterday and it’s a shite-weather antidote).
What do you think makes Other Voices such a special gig for artists to play?
I’m mortified to say I’ve never been to Dingle before, and I think ¾ of the band are the same…so multiple cherries will be popped (!) I like the idea of a festival in a small but vital place, outside of the bubble of Dublin, with a great mix of punters and bands interacting. Other Voices has been providing that for a long time, and I’m sick to have not been down before. (I’m also presuming what happens in Dingle stays in Dingle?!)
What song are you enjoying playing live the most right now?
The closing song of our set at the moment is ‘Dead Weight’ – it has a fairly epic drone-synth ending, so not a song that can really be played mid-set! It’s a bit of an emotional release, but fun to play.
What other acts would you most recommend people see from the Other Voices?
The line-up overall looks great, but people should definitely make a point of seeing Wastefellow. Amazing live! Diolmhain is super talented. He comes from serious music heritage too (his folks are both very talented musicians) and it’s been great to see him going from strength to strength. Junior Brother is also great, as are Just Mustard – all three of the above are very different but definitely worth seeing (but better not be on at the same time as us…I’d be raging to miss them!)
With 2018 coming at an end. What are your future plans, gigs, releases etc going into 2019?
We are working on a video for a new single at the moment, which may or may not emerge this side of Xmas…who knows! Either way, we will have new music out as soon as possible. We’re working on an album which is hopefully going to be out early next year. In the meantime, both singles from last year are available for free download at https://SoundCloud.com/aritualsea.
