Rising rock act Thunderpussy will play the Academy in Dublin on Monday, August 27th as the group tour their breakout debut album. Guitarist Whitney Petty recently took the time to talk to the Last Mixed Tape about the what inspires her music, what she’s listening to right now and the band’s future plans.
What’s the last record you bought?
Nebraska, by Bruce Springsteen, on Vinyl. Sounds incredible.
What’s the last song you played on Spotify?
Oh, you got me on a good day. “This Means War” by Shovels and Rope. Two days ago it would have been Shania Twain…
Tell us about how your debut album. How was it written and recorded?
The songs were all written differently, and many of them were being written for years and years. Molly and I write the melodies and lyrics, bring them to the band, and we see where it goes from there. Two songs, Gentle Frame and Young & Pure, were written in the studio.
What inspires your music?
The relationship between Molly and I is big. We are a couple, and we are in love, and we fight, and we go through this crazy life narrative together and them we write about it. I love to try and imitate the sounds and styles of my heroes like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Muddy Waters, the Stooges… Try to write in a certain style. And when it comes out through the filter that is me, it has its own character.
You play Dublin later this year. What’s your personal favourite track to play live?
Our theme song: Thunderpussy
What are Thunderpussy’s future plans?
Keep on rockin in the free world! More touring, more writing and recording, and hopefully retiring to a sheep farm outside of Dublin one day soon…
Tickets to see Thunderpussy live at the Academy are priced at €28.00 including booking fee on sale now from Ticketmaster.
