In the latest edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention to Cave Ghosts and their brand new single ‘All My Life’.
Since first grabbing my attention over two-years ago with the introspective retro-pop of ‘Mistakes’ (a demo), Cave Ghosts are a group I have had marked for great things, and while I’ve had to wait for the band to perfect their sound and release their first fully-fledged single, the five-piece have more than delivered with the brilliant ‘All My Life’.
What sets Cave Ghosts apart is how they fully embrace the hooks and rhythms of pop music. ‘All My Life’ is a carefully constructed piece of songwriting that flows with infectious summery overtones and indie-pop production. Indeed, the song is so catchy that each section feels like it could work as chorus all on its own (not an easy task).
Lush harmonies and Jen Connell’s swaying vocal acrobatics form the perfect foreground for the track whilst retro-pop drum beats and over-driven guitars give ‘All My Life’ an essential bit of grit and definition.
I am a music nerd plain and simple, and one of the most gratifying aspects of this is introducing people to a band whose music hits you from the off. Indeed in the past this would be done by giving your friends a mixed-tape and telling them they “had to hear this band”.
Last January I included Cave Ghosts in TLMT’s ‘20 Emerging Acts for 2015‘ and have brought-up the group whenever the subject of new exciting artists comes up. It’s been two-years but with ‘All My Life’, Cave Ghost have finally proven me right.
