In the latest edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention Blooms and her latest single ‘Secrets’.
Since first appearing on the music scene with her E.P. If (TLMT review here), Blooms (a.k.a Louise Cunnane) has carefully curated her creative output, the electronic artist has followed up her attention grabbing debut with the singles ‘Fall’ and the stunning ‘Love’, leaving a small but totally defined back catalog of work.
From listening to her music it comes as no surprise however that Blooms is an artist who needs an emotional attachment to the songs she releases out into the ether. And her recent Facebook post regarding work on her sophomore E.P. bravely and fully exposes the songwriter’s demands on her music, stating:
Sometimes you are so sure of the direction you are going in that you fail to see the signs telling you to stop.
After much consideration I have decided to not release the current EP that I have been working on. It has been a crazy year – I have had the most wonderful experiences with Blooms; festivals, supporting Ellie Goulding, working with amazing producers and the list goes on. Personally, I have had a tough year and so I have had to lose and find myself whilst in the midst of recording this piece of work.
The more I listen to it the more disconnected I feel from it and I do not want to put out something unless I can stand behind it fully and honestly say that my heart and soul have gone into it. I am going to be taking a short break to write a brand new EP. An EP I am proud of and EP I want you all to hear.
I’m not disappearing, I have some exciting collaborations in the works. For your patience and support please have this free download. Recorded by candlelight in my favourite city in the most amazing studio.
With that in mind Blooms has released some new material in the shape of ‘Secrets’, a reflective repose of a track that whispers softly from beginning to end and, in light of the songwriter’s above comments, a single that gives us an insight into this enigmatic musician.
The sheer beauty of the track is spellbinding, but this has always been the case with Blooms. The real trick in the tail is the air of atmosphere and mystery around it. One can only wonder what the future holds from the London-based artist.
