In this edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention to ‘Chewing Gum Breakfast’ the lead single of Shrug Life’s upcoming E.P. The Grand Stretch.
Teeming with the ramshackle, scattershot indie-pop of the past, Shrug Life’s sound jumps and shifts from jangling guitar to sudden to big post-punk crashes of rhythm.
Throughout ‘Chewing Gum Breakfast’ the band constantly weave and change the music around to a degree that makes it simply infectious to listen to, leaving you guessing what will come from the next section.
Making for a hooky, dynamic listening experience, ‘Chewing Gum Breakfast’ speaks of the malaise and restlessness of now through a prism of daily observation, something that has always found a home at Shrug Life’s Popical Island patrons.
‘Chewing Gum Breakfast’s parent E.P. The Grand Stretch will be released on July 25th via Popical Island. Shrug Life will launch the record with a show at the Bello Bar this Friday night (July 25th).
