In this edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention to Girls Names and their latest track ‘A Hunger Artist’.
The second track to be taken from Girl Names’ forthcoming album Arms Around A Vision (due for release on October 2nd via Tough Love Records), ‘A Hunger Artist) finds the band providing a rattling post-punk sound that teems with persistent beats and isolated industry.
Occupying a Martin Hannett-esque production, Girl Names’ music is perfectly set within turbulent echoes, washing synths and upfront howls of guitar that surround it.
Above this the vocal commands the listener’s attention, and more than matches the full-scale post-punk sound. Resulting in a brooding, forceful glimpse into the group’s upcoming L.P.
Indeed, it’s difficult to be not caught up by the promise this latest offering (and the previous track ‘Reticence’) have given in the face of Arms Around A Vision’s autumn release date.
