In this edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention to Tandem Felix and their single ‘Nothing I Do Will Ever Be Good Enough’.
More inline with the textural indie-folk and country blend of Beck’s seminal Sea Changes, Tandem Felix take the depth of sound found in their previous work (‘Ryan Hoguet’) and add another layer to the music with ‘Nothing I Do Will Ever Be Good Enough’.
Populated by a lush alternative-country production the track also incorporates synth lines and Tandem Felix’s use of background texture to deliver something very different and unexpected.
Indeed the band feel and sound at home with this noticeable overhaul in style. With the group’s own distinct characteristics never seeming lost or overpowered.
Changes in sound and direction can be a tricky prospect, with some band’s falling into unnatural territory that’s unsuited to their sound. However, Tandem Felix’s own re-imagining feels earned and wholly fulfilled, the county twang that now surrounds the edges of the group’s music seems the perfect fit, and indeed maybe what was missing before.
