In this edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention to This Side Up and their single ‘Offhand’.
A vibrant, upbeat take on Irish hip-hop, This Side Up’s infectious new single ‘Offhand’ moves with all the creative urgency and confidence of a group who have a firm grasp on their sound.
Punctuated by brass blasts and pulsing percussion the sound of ‘Offhand’ jolts and pushes with a myriad of sounds coming out of the group’s hip-hop foundation. Merging parts of funk and soul into the more modern rap production of the single.
With its upbeat, syncopated beats and fluctuating textural backdrops creating a heavy brass filled bedrock for This Side Up to twist their unique lyrical phrasing around in way the moves to the natural flow and rhythm of the hip-hop based production of the track itself.
