September Girls have released their new music video for the single ‘Black Oil’, taken from the band’s current E.P. Veneer.
Taking up from where the group’s previous video ‘Veneer’ left off in terms of both style and tone, ‘Black Oil’ (also directed by Jessie Ward O’Sullivan) occupies the same, intense visual mood and over-exposed surrealist imagery.
Through Ward O’Sullivan’s shuddering VHS engrained visual style and fellow band member Caoimhe Derwin art direction, which plays with the starkly contrasted colour palette, the video captures the imposing sound of ‘Black Oil’ perfectly.
A centre-piece in September Girls latest E.P. Veneer (which features in TLMT’s Top 20 E.P’s of 2014), ‘Black Oil’ is interesting in how it showcases the group’s evolution and transition in sound found over the record’s four tracks.
