In this edition of T.L.M.T’s song of the week feature The Mixed-Tape we turn our attention to Little Xs For Eyes and their brand new single ‘Love Gets Lost’.
Making a triumphant return, coming almost a year since the release of the sun drenched ‘Summer Stay’, Little Xs For Eyes shift focus sonically and thematically with ‘Love Gets Lost’.
Indeed even the cover art and accompanying promo images mirror a sense of symmetry and stylistic flourishes found within the single’s intricately structured production.
Still imbued with the band’s jubilant indie-pop sound and weaving multi-layered harmony driven hooks the song feels like it’s performed and created by a six-piece, such is the evolving interplay, and introduction and subtraction of various melodic and percussive elements.
While all of these characteristics are, and have been, part of why Little Xs For Eyes music is so infectiously up-beat, ‘Love Gets Lost’ is instilled with a reflective, yet hopefully, lyrical mood from Bennie Reilly.
Permeating throughout the music the band walk the tonal line convey by Reilly’s words deftly following the vocalist sonically through passages such as “Are we gonna argue for another hour. Lets address this rut. We discuss too much. Rather use my arms and lips to fix us up”.
It is for these reasons that ‘Love Gets Lost’ by Little Xs For Eyes is this week’s addition to The Mixed-Tape. The single itself is out now via bandcamp and iTunes.
