Floor Staff – The Guest

'The Guest' video still

Dublin alternative-pop outfit Floor Staff have unveiled their new music video for ‘The Guest’, taken from the group’s current E.P. The Good Luck.

Directed by Bob Gallagher, the video for ‘The Guest’ plays with the tone of the music through a fun narrative that follows a couple dealing with their newborn baby being a musician.

Imbued with Gallagher distinct style and some brilliant cinematography from Deirdre O’Toole, the visuals have a symmetry to them that translates to the joint feeling between the video’s central characters. Coupled with some rhythmic editing, this approach results in several effective shot compositions that drive the plot forward through imagery.

What is most striking about the video is how both actors Michael Power & Leslely Conroy pull-off the comedic moments of the story. With both Gallagher’s direction and the actors themselves choosing to avoid playing-up the comedy, these performances work to give the quirkier scenes have more of an impact.

Alos on a technical level, the production design and realization of many scenes work to give the video a surreal edge while never becoming jarring to the viewer.

Coupled with the deep melodic pull of Floor Staff’s sound, the video for ‘The Guest’ is entertaining accompaniment to the music that convey’s the mood of the song while also expanding upon it tonally.
