Taken from I Heart the Monster the Hero’s début album Rhythm & Pals, ‘Send Good Vibes Only’ is the perfect microcosm of the record’s post-modernist mania and pin-point pop sensibilities.
Opening with a shuddering ambient texture quickly followed by a percussive urgency that propels the songs forward, the melting pop of melody, harmony and noise that the Dublin group project with their music is abundantly clear.
At it’s core is the group’s ability to write compelling and memorable pop music. Using this as a starting point, I Heart the Monster Hero use an almost Cubist approach where they deconstruct the song only to rebuild and restructure all of these elements within a brilliant collage of sound.
The centre piece of an album populated by moments of psych-pop grandeur (see also ‘Toni Bailey’ and ‘Little Gem’) ‘Send Good Vibes Only’ most effectively captures the mood and frantic pace of Rhythm & Pals. A stunning encapsulation of I Heart the Monster Hero’s singular sound and style.
