This weekend (Friday August 1st to Sunday August 3rd) will see the second annual Indiependence music festival take place at Deer Farm in Mitchelstown, County Cork. With a line-up brimming with some of the country’s best and brightest talents here is the Last Mixed Tape’s 10 must see acts.
Tvvins – Friday August 1st Main Stage (7pm)
Electronic duo Tvvins have become something of a mainstay on this year’s festival circuit. A group with a live sound that captures the shimmering production of their recent single ‘You Better’, Tvvins set this Friday will be an engaging beginning to the festival weekend.
The Altered Hours – Friday August 1st Big Top Stage (7.30pm)
One of Ireland’s seminal live acts and part of Cork’s bustling music scene, the Altered Hours are every bit as visceral and engaging live as they are in their studio work.
VANN Music – Friday August 1st Big Top Stage (8.45pm)
Electro-pop band VANN Music have been gathering considerable momentum of late. Their most recent single ‘Tina’ showcased the Dublin outfits broad electronic sound.
John Cummins – Saturday August 2nd The Village Stage (3.45pm)
A spoken-word artist with a charming and relatable style. John Cummins is a simply captivating storyteller whose distinct approach highlights the eclectic feel of this year’s Indiependence line-up.
Codes – Saturday August 2nd Main Stage (5pm)
Dublin indietronic act Codes made a stunning return this year with their single ‘Astraea’. A band with a deeply textural and singular sound, the four-piece will be a truly evocative live music experience for festival goers this weekend.
Kelly-Anne Byrne – Saturday August 2nd Bacardi Bar (8pm)
A DJ with an encyclopedic knowledge of soul, R&B and funk music, Kelly-Anne Byrne’s ability to draw from this rich back catalog is most effectively seen in her radio shows for TXFM and Today FM. Furthering the broad stylistic feel of this weekend’s line-up Byrne’s DJ set will be a must for not only fans of these genres but also those looking for an up-tempo dance-driven aspect to Indiependence 2014.
The Vincent(s) – Sunday August 3rd Main Stage (5pm)
Continuing the Vincent(s) irrepressible momentum leading into their début studio album recording sessions, the death-pop act will bring their powerful live sound to Main Stage at Deer Farm this Sunday. A must see in any context.
Elastic Sleep – Sunday August 3rd Big Top Stage (5.30pm)
Elastic Sleep’s recent E.P. Leave You was the culmination of all of the group’s early promise and has also lead to several festival stealing appearances this summer. The band’s set this Sunday will be an exciting chance to see their visceral live show.
The Minutes – Sunday August 3rd Main Stage (7pm)
Returning this year with their seminal sophomore record Live Well, Change Often the Minutes burst back onto the scene with real intent, an energy that is brilliantly mirrored in their raucous live performances.
Color//Sound – Sunday August 3rd Beer Hall Stage (8.30pm)
A group on the rise, Color//Sound recent single ‘To The Countryside’ conveyed the Dublin outfit’s deep, atmospheric sound and melodically rapturous musical approach. And with a live performance aesthetic to match, the four-piece will be one of the must see acts this weekend.
