James Vincent McMorrow – Gold

James Vincent McMorrow has unveiled his latest music video for ‘Gold’ taken from the artist’s seminal sophomore album Post Tropical.

With the opening wash of the ocean crashing upon the wave to the stunningly composed cinematography, the serene soft glow of the video for ‘Gold’ comes into focus with the gentle beauty of Emma J Doyle’s and Cory Philpott’s direction.

As the directing duo and their crew create a piece the visually matches the grandeur, drama and sublime sonic brilliance of McMorrow’s music the hypnotic, joyous flow of movement captured on-screen is breathtakingly evocative.

Gliding and dancing upon roller-skates to the vast open sound of ‘Gold’ (mirrored by Director of Photography Robin Leveille’s great use of space) Doyle and Philpott’s concept perfectly encapsulates everything that is freeing and singular about experiencing music, the insular moments and connections.

The music video for ‘Gold’ is a shining example of how the medium can capture the imagination and feel of its subject. Under the intricate, free-flowing direction of Emma J Doyle and Cory Philpott both cast and crew convey the vivid nature of James Vincent McMorrow’s music and expand upon it. Simply joyous to behold.
