Record Store Day 2014 will take place this Saturday, April 19th with a brilliant array of concerts and celebrations happening all over the country, as music fans peruse record shops in search of the latest additions to their vinyl collections. 1. Record Store Gay (Outhouse, Capel Street – Pantibar): 12pm
Now in its third year Record Store Gay will offer a rich blend of bands and artists, who also appear as part of Record Store Gay’s annual compilation of covers including Cave Ghosts, Sleep Thieves, Kate’s Party, I Heart The Monster Hero and the Late David Turpin (listen to the full compilation here). Running from 12pm – 6pm at the Outhouse on Capel Street, the festivities will then move on to the Pantibar from 6pm – 11pm, Record Store Gay 2014 offers the largest and broadest spectrum of Irish-indie acts this Saturday. Performers on the day include: Villagers, Crayonsmith, French Bird and Biggles Flys Again. (Facebook event page).
2. Tower Records (Dawson Street – O’Connell Street): 8am
Tower Records Dublin will play host to several in-store performances for Record Store Day 2014, with singer-songwriter Lisa Hannigan, alternative-rock act Little Matador, Dave Gegharty’s Join Me In The Pines and Derry musician SOAK, Villagers’ Conor O’Brien and New York indie-pop group Lucius all appearing. 3. Elastic Witch closing down party (Twisted Pepper): 3pm
With Elastic Witch recently announcing its imminent closure, the record store has chosen to go out in style with a stunning line-up of artists performing at the shop’s closing down party this Record Store Day. With Jape, Girls Names, I Am The Cosmos, Twin Kranes, Lisa O’Neill, Diamond Dagger and Squarehead all performing live. (Facebook event page).
4. Wingnut Records and Music Maker celebration (Bello Bar, Portobello): 9pm
Set in Dublin’s scenic new venue the Bello Bar, Wingnut Records will host a Record Store Day concert to celebrate the opening of its latest store in Music Maker on Exchequer St. The line-up will include Bouts, No Spill Blood, Bitch Falcon and The River Fane.
5. The Record Spot/R.A.G.E (Fade Street): 9am
Situated on Dublin’s Fade Street, the Record Spot/R.A.G.E will be playing host to a myriad of local bands, artists and Dj sets. As well as give-aways of FREE vinyl players and store discounts that will be sure to attract vinyl collectors from all over the city. (Facebook event page).
